Pedestrians often ignore or forget to check whether there are bikes when they are walking on the bike lanes.
Some streets, such as the 3rd street in Purdue University, have large roadblocks and decorations that block riders’ sight from checking the safety of the traffic they are about to enter.
Vehicles and pedestrian don’t respect the traffic rules; they often ignore or unable to notice the bike riders on the road.
A bell is hard to be heard in the crowd, and it’s also hard for drivers to notice it.
Ideation.
First start with brainstorming 50 ideas about an bike accessory with lighting function.
Among the 50 initial ideas I generated, I selected a few with strong potential to explore and develop further. After a series of iterations and reflections, the concept involving a lock stood out the most in terms of practicality and design impact.
